Designing Homes from a Blank Slate

Every client comes to us with a vision. Some arrive with a complete plan in hand, while others simply know how they want their home to feel. No matter where the starting point is, our process begins the same way, by listening. At RES Contracting, we work with local architects to turn that vision into a fully customized home, designed specifically for the client, the site, and the way they live.

We don’t take a “one-size-fits-all” approach. Each home starts as a blank slate. From the first sketch to the last construction detail, the goal is to create something that fits both functionally and aesthetically, while meeting the performance standards that define every RES project.

Collaboration with Local Architects

We partner with a select group of architects here in Prescott. They specialize in true custom design, not stock plans or templates. This collaboration allows homeowners to work directly with a professional design team that understands the area—its terrain, light, and climate—and can tailor the design accordingly.

We’re deeply involved in that process. From site orientation and floor plan layout to elevations and ceiling design, our team works hand in hand with the architect and homeowner to ensure that what gets drawn can be built efficiently and beautifully.

From Plans to Performance

A great design isn’t just about how a home looks, it’s also about how it performs. We guide clients through every detail of the planning process to make sure their home is not only visually appealing but also energy efficient, comfortable, and durable.

Typical design packages include:

• Site plans to orient the home for sunlight, shade, and views

• Floor plans that balance flow, function, and comfort

• Elevations that capture the architectural vision

• Ceiling and electrical plans that define lighting, spacing, and structure

These detailed plans become the roadmap for construction. By investing the time to get every element right before we start building, we avoid surprises later and maintain the transparent, open-book process we’re known for.

Personalized Design Means Personalized Living

Every homeowner’s priorities are different. Some focus on entertaining space, others on energy performance or accessibility for retirement living. Our role is to make sure those priorities shape the design, not the other way around.

We help clients think through how their home will live; how natural light will move through the rooms, how insulation choices will affect comfort, and how mechanical systems can be optimized for efficiency. It’s not about creating the biggest house on the block. It’s about designing one that feels right, looks beautiful, works efficiently, and lasts.

By staying involved through every phase, from concept to final plan approval, we ensure that no detail gets lost between design and construction. That connection between the creative and the technical is what makes custom homes truly successful.

The Value of True Custom Design

There’s a difference between choosing from a set of pre-designed plans and crafting a home built specifically for your property. A truly personalized design adds long-term value by aligning the structure with its site, optimizing energy use, and reducing future maintenance costs.

We’ve found that when clients are engaged in the design process, the finished home reflects their personality and priorities in every space. It’s a rewarding process, and one that produces results that can’t be replicated with off-the-shelf plans.
