When it comes to building custom homes in Prescott, every project tells a unique story. Our recent highlight, “On the Rocks,” is a perfect example of how RES Contracting transforms challenging visions into stunning realities. Nestled in the rugged beauty of American Ranch, this home was designed and built atop a landscape of granite boulders, making it one of the most ambitious projects we’ve ever tackled.

A Challenging Beginning

The homeowners had held onto their property for years, waiting for the perfect moment to build their dream retirement home. The lot, while breathtaking, presented a significant challenge: a steep, rocky terrain covered with massive granite outcroppings and no flat ground. Designing a home that not only fit the unique landscape but also maximized its natural beauty required creativity, precision, and collaboration.

With these challenges in mind, our team partnered with a skilled architect to craft a design that would integrate seamlessly into the rugged environment. The result? A home that quite literally became one with the rocks.

Innovative Design Features

To achieve this, we leaned into some truly innovative construction techniques. Here are some standout features:

• Strategic Site Placement: The home’s layout was carefully designed to nestle into the natural contours of the land, preserving the beauty of the boulders while enhancing the views.
• Integrated Outdoor Living Spaces: Patios and rooflines blend into the rocky outcrops, creating seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces.
• Main-Level Living with Accessibility: Despite being a two-story home, an elevator ensures easy accessibility, offering convenience for the homeowners well into their golden years.
• Canyon Bridging Foundation: One section of the house spans a small canyon, allowing natural water flow during rains and creating a unique architectural element.

These features demonstrate how we not only adapt to the land but also use its natural challenges as opportunities for stunning design and functionality.

A Home Tailored to Retirement

This high-end custom home wasn’t just about overcoming obstacles—it was about creating a space perfectly suited for the homeowners’ lifestyle. From the early design stages, their comfort and long-term needs were at the forefront. The open, airy floor plan offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, while the main living areas on the first floor provide convenience without sacrificing luxury.

Energy efficiency was also a top priority. Like all our homes, “On the Rocks” incorporates high-performance insulation and heating systems, ensuring year-round comfort and reduced utility bills—a perfect fit for eco-conscious retirees.
